UN BALLO IN MASCHERA
Opening Ball of the Venice Carnival 2027
Welcome to the first Carnival Ball and our Venice Carnival in costume ® program. The name is inspired by Giuseppe Verdi’s opera of the same name, "Un Ballo in Maschera" ("A Masked Ball"), to recreate the atmosphere of the great masked balls: a dance evening dedicated to elegance, a journey through time amidst baroque music and opera arias, learning the basic steps of period dances under the guidance of Dance Masters in the magnificent Ridotto halls.
The event includes a welcome aperitif and a four-course seated fish dinner, with paired regional wines. A vegetarian or meat menu option can be selected at the time of booking.
It is mandatory to wear a PERIOD COSTUME, which can be rented at ATELIER TIEPOLO with a discount provided for those participating in our balls. Places are limited and entry is guaranteed only after purchasing the ticket.
RIDOTTO HALLS
The Palace of the noble Dandolo family was the first place in Venice and in the world to host a public gambling house (the Ridotto) from 1638 to 1774, and it was open only during the Venetian Carnival, becoming the beating heart of its long nights. Casanova himself, an avid gambler, frequented it, considering it a perfect place for his conquests.

TERMS OF SALE AND USEFUL INFORMATION
Is it mandatory to wear a period costume?
Yes, a period costume is required to participate in A Masked Ball. Evening wear is not permitted. A mask on the face is not mandatory.
What does the ticket price include?
The ticket includes the welcome aperitif, the seated dinner including paired wines, and the described entertainment.
Do you provide a costume rental service for guests?
Yes, our Atelier Tiepolo has a vast collection of high-quality, handmade historical costumes.
We recommend purchasing the silver or gold ticket to take advantage of the costume rental at a discounted price reserved for participants of our events.
How can I book the event?
You can book directly on our website, by phone by contacting our office, or via email by requesting the booking form.
The invitation, which must be shown in paper or digital format at the entrance to the party, is strictly personal; therefore, it is necessary to provide the names of all participants at the time of booking. For residents in Italy, it is mandatory to provide the tax code (codice fiscale) at the time of booking for electronic invoicing purposes.
Reservations are considered confirmed only when we receive payment via credit card, PayPal, Wise, or bank transfer, and the indicated prices include VAT, with no additional booking fees.
What happens once the ticket is purchased on the site?
You will automatically receive a standard email from the site with the summary of the purchased ticket. In case of non-receipt of the email, please check your SPAM folder.
The final confirmation with the ticket will arrive directly from the office, following receipt of payment.
If I buy the silver or gold ticket, how does the costume selection work?
When you receive your booking confirmation, you will also receive a request to schedule an appointment for the fitting and selection of the costume, which can take place on the day of the event or a few days before, depending on your arrival in Venice.
If you have purchased a silver ticket, once at the atelier, you will be able to choose from standard category costumes; if you have purchased a gold ticket, you will be able to choose from superior category costumes.
Do I need to choose the costume in advance?
No, the costume must be chosen directly in Venice by having a fitting at our Atelier Tiepolo, by appointment. The fit of period costumes is different from normal clothing, and during the days the carnival is open, the complete collection of women's and men's outfits will be present in the atelier, where our qualified staff will assist you in choosing and dressing.
Is it possible to request a special menu for allergies, intolerances, or simple dietary preferences?
Certainly. The standard menu is fish-based, but we offer an alternative meat-based menu and options for vegetarians, vegans, and people with food intolerances (gluten free menus).
However, it is your responsibility to indicate any specific needs to us in the booking form or via email at least 7 days before the event, because it will not be possible to change menus on the evening of the Ball itself.
Can children participate?
Yes, children can participate, but we recommend our events for children aged 8 and up. The entrance ticket price is the same as for adults, while for the ticket including a costume, please contact the office for more information. It is important to report the presence of children at the time of booking.
What happens if I can no longer attend the event?
Our cancellation policy provides a 100% refund for cancellations received by January 5, 2027, a 50% refund if received up to 8 days before the date of the event; no refund if received less than 8 days before the event.
In the event of the cancellation of the Venice Carnival or in the event that the event cannot take place due to force majeure and/or any restrictions/provisions of the competent authority, the organizer undertakes to issue a voucher that can be used for the Venice Carnival in Costume 2028.
Where does the event take place and how can I reach it?
The ball is held in the Ridotto Halls, inside the Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal (Venice). The hotel has two entrances, one on Calle Vallaresso (S. Marco 1332), a few steps from St. Mark's Square, and the second entrance directly on the Grand Canal, if arriving by water taxi.
Are there VIP tables or different price categories for a better view?
No, our philosophy is that every guest is an "Important Person". All participants pay the same entrance price and enjoy the same level of excellence: every table is positioned to ensure an excellent view of the entertainment, and all guests receive the same excellent menu and the same exclusive service, without category distinctions.
How are the dinner tables arranged?
The tables are round and can accommodate 8-10 people. If you prefer to sit at a table with your friends, it is important to let us know before the event; for all other guests, we will try to seat people who speak the same languages at the same table to facilitate socialization.
Is it necessary to know how to dance to participate?
No, it is not necessary to know how to dance or to come with a partner. Period dances are group dances, and the dance masters will teach the basic steps, which are easily replicable. Instructions will be given in Italian and English, but the dances are learned primarily by observing the dance masters.
Is there a cloakroom service and elevator access in case of disability?
Yes, certainly.
Image rights
By purchasing the ticket, each guest authorizes the company Venice in Costume and the staff authorized by the same company to take photos and shoot videos during the event for promotional, television, and editorial purposes.
Will there be a photographer present during the evening?
Yes, an independent professional photographer will be present to take portraits of guests upon request, and you can arrange the delivery methods for the photos and payment directly during the event.
If, on the other hand, you would like a personalized photo shoot in costume on the streets of Venice or at your hotel, please contact the office.
